City Tire Company was founded in 1927 by Irving “Greeny” Greenberg. Irving was a Russian immigrant who moved to the United States through Ellis Island with his family in 1906. Greeny founded City Tire with the principles that “Quality and Honesty are what keep a customer”. Over the last 94 years we have continued to exemplify these core principles in our business every day. In our early days, we sold tires locally produced from manufacturers such as U.S. Royal (now Uniroyal) and Fisk. Today, we carry brands from all over the world (including Toyo, Bridgestone, Firestone, and Delta). Through City Tire’s history our commitment has always been to the needs of our customer. When Greeny passed the reigns to his son Larry in 1956, City Tire began its journey of growth. In the 1960’s we grew beyond just tires, at one time offering everything from power tools, to snowmobiles, and motorbikes. During the 1970’s, City Tire enjoyed fantastic growth to four retail stores, and two warehouses across southern New England. In the early 1980’s, our current owners, Greeny’s grandsons, Peter and Dan, joined the business and began our 3rd generation of growth and expansion. Since then, City Tire has added five more retail stores, for a total of nine locations that are proud to still carry on Greeny’s legacy.
